Hi, I tried to scan one of my students using the Kinect unit and software (fastavatarcapture) and could not find any .obj file. A folder is created with the name of the scan but it contains a range of .ply, text files etc

I am not using any other tech besides the this for the scan but I know you were using another tool also.

Can it work with just the Kinect and the software and where will the .obj or mesh file be located?

Hi - just fixed the problem - I am uploading the mesh .ply file up to the rigging and shaping software. Our scans are coming out acceptable, can you advise on what conditions are required to produce optimal scans please? i.e. position of person being scanned lighting etc.

You'll want to capture under uniform lighting, in an as-diffuse-as-possible lighting environment (no spotlights or shadows).

Ideally, the capture subject would be placed on a turntable and rotated 90 degrees (rather than turning 90 degrees themselves). The goal is to remain as still as possible.
