If your character skeleton and motion already have matching joint names, then you can:

1) load the skeleton, create a character with that skeleton

2) load the motion, play the motion on the character

but if your character doesn't use the internal SmartBody joint names, then many of the SmartBody controllers will not work.

The more robust way is to:

1) load the skeleton

2) apply a joint map which tells SmartBody which joint names map to the internal joint names

3) create a character with a skeleton whose joint map has already been created

4) load the motion

5) apply the joint map to the motion

6) Play the motion on the character

If the motion was not created for that specific character, you might have to retarget the motion first:

5.5) load the skeleton associated with the motion

5.6) apply the joint map to the skeleton associated with the motion

5.7) connect the motion to its associated skeleton

5.8) create a retargeting object between your character's skeleton and the associated skeleton (which means that all motion made for that skeleton will now be online retargeted to your character automatically).

You have to tell SmartBody which joints map to the internal names by doing a joint map on your character.
