Hi  ***NB Title should read STORING in SB format not 'sorting'!***

I have a rig which has a number of animations on it which I would like to extract so the SB standard rig can use them. Then I would like to import a new rig re-target those animations on to the new rig. Is this possible!?

The reason I have to do this is the old rig is a bit messed up, so transferring the gestures to a new rig in 3DMax is just not an option, but SB, at least on paper, is smart enough to do this. I was hoping to do the following;

- Import old skeleton and motions into sbgui

- Create a joint map, using the retarget viewer

- Apply the motions from the imported skeleton to the SB skeleton (its here I get stuck/confused!)

- Export the motions now in the SB skeleton/motion format

Any help would be much appreciated, apologies if I have missed something obvious or misread something.

There's an example of using online retargetting in data/examples/OnLineRetargettingDemo.py, is that any help?

When you apply the joint map to the skeleton and to the motions, you essentially map them both into a 'common' namespace, which allow the joint angles to be transferred. You can also specify joint chains to ignore, and others to constrain. You can also look at the motion-retarget.py file for samples of similar functionality.

Ah yes thank you that does help. Although it seems the motions i am trying to import are a bit broken to start with!
