GPL dependencies

I just noticed that SmartBody uses SteerSuite for obstacle avoidance, and that's GPL so I can't use it in commercial software. Will it be hard to build SmartBody without SteerSuite? Are there other GPL dependencies I should know about?

In fact, the SteerSuite license was changed to a BSD license, instead of GPL, after talking with the creators of SteerSuite, for just that reason you are describing. This new license is posted on the SteerSuite web site:
Their main web page needs to be updated, since the last posting says that the license is 'GPL' which is no longer true. This new license should allow its use in a commercial setting.

AFAIK, there are no GPL dependencies in SmartBody. The Institute for Creative Technologies is part of the University of Southern California, which regularly reviews software such as this for licensing issues.

There shouldn't be anything preventing you from using it commercially.
